Western Centre for Health, Research and Education (WCHRE)

15.6.11

The Western Centre for Health, Research and Education (WCHRE) project was the first of its kind VERNet undertook since the completion of the VERN phase one.  WCHRE was made distinctive from all other projects because it involved multiple stakeholders for a single construction project.  The collaboration was between The University of Melbourne, Victoria University and Western Health.  The project was to provide the new WCHRE building at Sunshine Hospital with high speed, high capacity bandwidth.  The project took eight months to complete and involved complex network design, fibre construction and installation of the latest technology in telecommunications equipment.

The University of Melbourne will set up a new clinical school to provide training for doctors in the area and Victoria University will set up a centre that provides education to nurses and other health professionals.  WCHRE will also cater for researchers working on medical research projects most affecting the people of Western Melbourne.
